Making the case for the Visual MCNP6 Variance Reduction application taught in the Intermediate Visual MCNP6 Workshops...

 

  1. Bulk neutron shielding through 200 cm of concrete from a Canadian Cyclotron

    • final calculation run-time:  4 hours

  2. Dose rate through a Heating and Air-conditioning air exhaust from the cyclotron facility.

    • initial calculation run-time: 38 days (not converged)

    • final calculation run-time:   1 hour (converged)

  3. Dose rate through a Heating and Air-conditioning air intake into the cyclotron facility.

    • initial calculation run-time: 337 days, almost a year (not converged)

    • final calculation run-time:  2 hours (converged)

  4. Neutron Dose Rate outside a Synchrotron Heavy Ion Accelerator being designed for South Korea.

    • initial calculation run-time:  720 days, almost 2 years (not converged)

    • final calculation run-time:    1 hour (converged)

The first three problems solved below were completed during an Intermediate Visual MCNP6 Workshop in one week.

The fourth problem was solved overnight at the 2014 ANS Knoxville Shielding Meeting using a laptop computer.
