Workshop Description

Participants MUST get MCNP® from RSICC prior to the class.  Email proof by following the steps in this .pdf file.  You must email this proof to Randy Schwarz with your registration.

This is the ideal workshop for the new MCNP® user. This workshop will be taught using the Visual Editor Code

The Visual Editor is a Graphical User Interface for MCNP®. The Visual Editor is provided at no cost, but participants must get the MCNP® package from RSICC.

The workshop will cover the basics of making a geometry including universes and lattices, creating sources and adding tallies to your input. New users should expect to be able to make their own complete input files and run basic calculations. The end of the day Friday will be reserved for a discussion on variance reduction.

Computers are provided, but participants are encouraged to bring their own laptop and take the workshop on their own system.

Lodging and Facilities

This course will be held in Las Vegas on the University of Las Vegas campus.

A hotel has not been set aside for the class.  If you need ideas for a hotel, there is an embassy suites hotel on Paradise and another on Swenson.  Both of these are east of the strip and would avoid strip traffic.  The Swenson hotel is closest to UNLV.

You will probably need a rental car, parking passes will be provided on the first day of the class.  The class will be held in the Thomas T. Beam Engineering Complex (Click for Google Maps) in room TBE B-367 starting at 8:30 AM.  You can park in the garage near the building PKG1 ( Click for Google Maps) in any marked student spots (white spaces) in the parking lots or anywhere on the 2nd thru top floors of the Cottage Grove Parking garage.  The garage can be accessed from Flamingo road.  UNLV classes are not in session so parking should not be a problem.
